Windows 10 users - Win XP on Virtual Box installation

You will need:
1. VirtualBox 5.2 (newer versions suck)
https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.44/VirtualBox-5.2.44-139111-Win.exe
2. 7-zip archiver in 32bit version
https://7-zip.org/a/7z1900.exe
3. DarkSide archive "DarkSide 17 08 2023.rar"

4. Windows XP SP3 32bit ISO file and a serial number, if possible a version that needs no activation, as Windows XP activation servers no longer work.
If you don't have one try this: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/download-windows-xp-for-free-and-legally-straight-from-microsoft-si/ and go to chapter III

Put all files in C:\DarkSideInstall folder

I. install and run VirtuaBox
Run the installer (VirtualBox-5.2.44-139111-Win.exe) and click:
next, next, next, yes, install, yes (admin prompt), finish
Virtualbox should be up and running.

II. Create a Virtual Machine and install Windows
Click "New", the dialog will open, enter:
  Name: "DSMIR"
  Type: "Microsoft Windows"
  Version: "Windows XP (32-bit)
Click next, and set 512
Click next, create, next, next, create

Now click the button "Settings" in the menu.
In the new dialog choose "Storage" on the list on the left.
On the "Storage devices" list in the middle choose the CD icon named "Empty", then click the CD icon on the right (the "Attributes" panel) and "Choose Virtual Optical Disk File"
Find your Windows XP ISO file in C:\DarkSideInstall and open it.
Click OK in the lower-right corner to close settings.

Start the virtual machine (green arrow). The Windows installer should appear in a few seconds.
If everything is too small, choose the "View" menu and set the "Scale factor" according to your needs.
Install the Windows, choose FAT, not NTFS!
Anytime you need to leave VM (if mouse trapped) click right CTRL.

When Windows is installed and you see the desktop, choose "Devices" from VirtualBox menu and click "Insert Guest Additions CD image". VirtualBox Guest Additions installer should appear. next, next, install... 3x continue and eventually reboot.
Shutdown Windows XP after reboot

III. Put MIR files insade VM
Click Settings, Choose "Shared folders" on the list on the left, click a little folder with a green plus sign on the right.
In "Folder Path" choose "C:\DarkSideInstall"
    "Folder Name" should be "DarkSideInstall"
    "Auto-mount" checked

Click OK, and OK again to close settings, run the VM.

You should find a new disk E: in "My Computer" containing among others the 7Zip installer and DarkSide archive.
Install 7Zip, unpack the DarkSide archive to disk C: and setup MIR using default instructions

Potential issues & Fixes:

1. When you run the game and get 3D error, click OK with mouse instead od keyboard.

2. Same issue different fix = turn the sound drivers off (some found it as a solution)

Mam 1 sposób na pozbycie się lagów polecone przez Shandril
Pobieracie plik DDrawCompat -https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat i wrzucacie go do folderu z grą.
Testuje właśnie na Windows 11 i jak na razie działa o wiele lepiej niż na wirtualnej z XP, tylko ja mam Windows 11 trochę zmodyfikowany, bo oryginalny ma pełno niepotrzebnych rzeczy, które tylko zacinają system. Jak ktoś ma oryginalny, to niech przetestuje i napisze, czy działa.

Ja osobiście robię tak, że wrzucam do folderu z grą pliki z tego postu punkty 4 i 6 oraz instaluje DirectX 9.0.
