This is disgraceful to use language like this just turning players to never log in again.

Technical Support / Re: Frame Rate Fix for multi-cored systems
« on: March 31, 2015, 09:27:47 AM »
Further to this advice. If you run a Dual Graphics card setup, such as Nvidia SLI or ATI Crossfire, this also causes
a considerable drop in FPS when running Mir and so you should consider disabling this feature before playing.

Technical Support / Frame Rate Fix for multi-cored systems
« on: March 31, 2015, 09:16:19 AM »
For those who suffer from excessive frame rate drops, here is one good solution. This fix assumes
you have already done the sensible things like update graphics drivers.

1: Load the game
2: Minimize the game
3: Open task manager
4: Select hollymir in the processes tab
5: Right click hollymir and set the affinity to a single processor core
6: Right click hollymir again and set the priority to real time.

Caution

Do not set priority to real time on all available system cores as this could cause a system lock up.

Benefits

I have observed an approximate increase of 20fps following this procedure.

These would make great additions to the blacksmithing system.

Disassemble
Blacksmithing Skill Requirement: 200

Checks bag for wearable item, destroys, and creates a random
number of nuggets from 1 to 3 with a 50% success rate. What type
of nuggets you get should be dependant on the items level.

Repair
Blacksmithing Skill Requirement: 400

Performs a basic repair on an item.
Item can still lose durability

Name Item
Blacksmithing Skill Requirement: 600

Allows the blacksmith to rename an item

Special Repair
Blacksmithing Skill Requirement: 800

Performs complete repair of item with no durability loss.

Student Refine
Blacksmithing Skill Requirement: 1000

Adds +1 Stat to an item at a 25% probability of success

Master Refine
Blacksmithing Skill Requirement: 1500

Adds +1 Stat to an item at a 50% probability of success

Ideas / Behavioural Characteristics of Ranged Mobs
« on: February 19, 2015, 11:07:41 AM »
Just a minor point to make. Some mobs, like NumaEldar's fight with an offensive behaviour, when
really it would be more appropriate for them to fight defensively. What I mean by this is that when
an enemy approaches them, they should really step back from them, rather than into them.

Darks fight with a defensive behaviour, not sure if this is a database entry or a hardcoded thing, but
defo I would recommend melee mobs fight in melee and ranged mobs fight at range.

Ideas / Re: Everlasting Revision of Tame
« on: February 17, 2015, 11:26:59 AM »
Yeh, because on it, the server admins obviously set this bit of hex
from this:

85 C0 0F 85 4E 01 00 00

to this

85 C0 EB 04 00 00 00 00

What this does is removes the increasing difficulty of taming your next pet

Obviously I have tried searching for these bit's of hex on the files used here, but
they aren't present by the looks of it. Which is basically a complete pain in the balls.

What is the difference between eiserver.exe and holleymir3.exe?

Apparently eiserver.exe can be hexed to change the value of how many pets you are allowed
by simply searching for this line of hex

 8B 45 F8 8B 80 90 03 00 00 8B 40 08 3B 45 E8

and replace it with

8B 45 F8 8B 80 90 03 00 00 8B 40 08 83 F8 05

Seems so easy, yet.... so far out of reach lol

Ideas / Everlasting Revision of Tame
« on: February 17, 2015, 12:11:54 AM »
My solution is to turn tame into a quest driven profession. The point of which is to get
around some of the hard coded limitation of the game, putting the power back into
the hands of the admin and making taming a more detailed part of the game for the
enthusiast.

Make an NPC with script:

Tame HookingCat Quest

Tame 5 HookingCat's and bring each one to me. As a reward
I will provide you a maximum of 3 hooking cats any time you want.

I have a HookingCat!
Congratulations! Bring 4 more HookingCat's for quest completion
Remove Pet

I have a HookingCat!
Congratulations! Bring 3 more HookingCat's for quest completion
Remove Pet

I have a HookingCat!
Congratulations! Bring 2 more HookingCat's for quest completion
Remove Pet

I have a HookingCat!
Congratulations! Bring 1 more HookingCat's for quest completion
Remove Pet

I have a HookingCat!
Congratulations! You have completed the HookingCat quest

Would you like to spawn

1x HookingCat Pet [Level 1]
2x HookingCat Pet [Level 1]
3x HookingCat Pet [Level 1]

Upgrade HookingCat

Would you like to increase the level of your spawnable HookingCats?

Level 2 [20,000 gold]
Level 3 [25,000 gold]
Level 4 [30,000 gold]
Level 5 [35,000 gold]
Level 6 [40,000 gold]
Level 7 [45,000 gold]

----------------------

Logically then, the next quest in the list, probably Oma Quest  would require 10 pets to be tamed and upgrading it to lvl 2 would start at 50k and to level 7 75k, further down the line, a NumaElder might require as much as 60 to tame and could stretch into the hundreds of thousands to upgrade.

This is a hardcore fix for the taming enthusiast, it's not exactly an easy thing to do for a player, it is both ruthlessly time consuming and expensive, which is what tame is and should be, but presented in a way that is vastly more pleasing and it means you can keep crazy mobs on 1st floors without people like me kicking up a fuss about it all the time.

Actually, I would plead for this idea to be implemented above all other ideas I have ever posted. This one would
shut me up for ages.

Maybe you could achieve this, without having to incorporate new sprites, using a script instead.

Evidently, you already have a script that records how many integrals a person has, so how about modifying
this script in the following way:

Add option to blacksmith - Give Ore
Add option to blacksmith - Smelting Skill
Add option to blacksmith - Blacksmithing Skill
Add option to blacksmith - Make Items

Add option to blacksmith - Check Copper Nuggets
Add option to blacksmith - Check Copper Plates
Add option to blacksmith - Check Copper Sheet
Add option to blacksmith - Check Crafting Skill

Clicking on Give Ore:
Blacksmith removes all ores in the bag, careful to have only copper ore in the bag

Clicking on Check Ore Count
Blacksmith says you have 88 copper ores and 0 copper nuggets

Clicking on Smelting Skill
Blacksmith says - would you like to smelt 88 copper ores?
Yes!
Blacksmith says - You have 0 copper ore and 80 copper nuggets
Blacksmith says - Would you like to combine 80 copper nuggets to make copper plate?
Yes!
Blacksmith says - You have 64 copper plate
Blacksmith says - Would you like to work copper plate on the anvil?
Yes!
Blacksmith says - You have 19 copper sheet

Clicking on Make Items
Blacksmith says - You have 19 copper sheet

Would you like to make:

Poppy Whistle [5 copper sheets]

Yes!

Blacksmith says - Item creation successful!
Place item: Poppy Whistle in users bag

Clicking on Crafting Skill

Blacksmith says - Your crafting skill is 10

--------------------

Potentially then, you can tie a users crafting skill with certain other benefits much in the same way as
Fame points. A person with 1000 crafting skill might be able to create a refine stone where other users
cannot. That person therefore can provide a service, making him valuable.

Above sprites I made rapidly just to convey the idea. I would have to remake them with
proper textures. Considering what you have told me about the limitations, it may not be
worth trying at all.

A single use call-poppy whistle is actually a good item, because you would not have to
be in town to use it, it could be spawned mid-hunt to replace dead pets, so in that context,
yes, such an item has more value than copper ore. As a wizard, I would probably always
have a poppy whistle on me.

A high up level player may not appreciate it, but what about a whistle made from silver ore,
a lessie perhaps?

Ideas / Crystal Maze Concept
« on: February 15, 2015, 02:19:37 PM »
Was thinking about making a set of small, realistic room projects that could be
linked together to make a new maze for the game, maybe get people guessing about
stuff again.

The only thing I haven't made for them is a pit for the first room and a floor for the second
but you get the picture. None of the texturing or objects currently exists in the game and
is in no way recycled content.

Very easy to get the sprites for these into the games library and also very easy to piece
them together in the map editor.

Reports / Re: Lag!
« on: February 15, 2015, 11:26:16 AM »
I experience frequent lag and drop outs as well.

My broadband is rated @ 106mbps with a 18ms ping time to london
and an average ping time of of 27ms to the darkside server with 0%
packet loss over 50 pings.

One thing that can cause this problem is the servers inability to keep up with
the amount of mobs getting killed at any given time. On this server, people have
access to a lot of pets with mass killing skills, this could be a contributing factor.

Olymp server faced a similar problem in the past because it featured a pet levelling
room. In it, you could spawn about 50 yobs and let your pets quickly level up.

Initially, this was not seen as a problem, untill people started using sonic seals, which
could mass kill and that is when the problems started happening. The server grinded
to a halt at times, pissed everyone off and the room was removed as a result.
